How to find us!

We are based in the rural village of Prospidnick 2 1/4 miles as the crow flies, to the North of the town of Helston.

The address is Helston Railway, Trevarno Farm, Prospidnick, TR13 0RY.

If you use the post code in your Sat Nav it may not take you directly to our car park, and can take you a long way up the hill past our entrance. We are actually only about 100m west of the large railway bridge.

However if you type Helston Railway straight into Google Maps, it shows exactly where we are. You can scroll down this page to see Google Maps.

For those of you who use the what3words app we are at: bands.silks.questions

At the southern end of our track is Truthall Halt, and if you would like to walk or cycle there you can also join the train at this restored halt which is exactly as it was when the line was in operation. Sorry, there is no car park at Truthall.

For more detailed directions to Prospidnick from Helston and Camborne please scroll down to the bottom of this page. There is also some information about public transport.

On arrival

You will need to get your tickets from the ticket office and shop, alongside the car park, before heading down to the train, which takes about 5 minutes.

The trains start  at Prospidnick Halt, about a 200 metre walk from our ticket office.

The Journey

The one mile, each way, train journey out to Truthall Halt and back takes around 40 minutes. Our train runs along our restored railway line with some extensive views across the countryside towards the Lizard and South Coast.

At Truthall Halt the train waits for a few minutes, for passengers to take a look around, before it returns to Prospidnick.

Whilst you are at Prospidnick, why not spend some time in our little gift shop with its extensive range of railway themed gifts and souvenirs, or browse our extensive collection of pre-loved railway books and models, or for the younger children our collection of pre-loved Thomas Toys.

Or, you might visit our buffet in the restored railway carriage, serving hot and cold drinks and snacks and light lunches.  We also stock gluten free options.  Sunday lunch is an especial favourite, but you might need to book (contact Fred on 07368 340612)

Accessibility

We strive to look after our disabled and less mobile visitors, as best as we can, and most wheelchair users can enjoy a trip on a train, by using our special ramp.

We do need to point out that some larger mobility units may not be able to be accommodated, due to their size or weight and taking due regard to the safety implications.

Also, whilst the route from the Car Park area to the platform is unmade, it is reasonably flat and not too difficult to wheel or walk over. It is just over 200m long.

If you have any questions about accessibility, please email info@helstonrailway.co.uk – We will do everything possible to assist you.

We have new disabled friendly loos, in the arrival area at Prospidnick, and near to our Buffet and Shop!

From Helston

From Helston take the A394 to Penzance and follow the brown signs onto the B3302 to St Ives and Camborne.

Turn right at the Junction of the B3303 road to Camborne. Go through Crowntown and take the Chynhale and Prospidnick right hand turning.

At the bottom of the hill turn left and then after going under the railway bridge turn left up the incline to Trevarno Farm and follow the signs to the car park.

From Camborne

If you are coming from Camborne take the B3303 towards Helston and after going through Nancegollan turn left towards Chynhale and Prospidnick at the brown sign.

At the bottom of the hill turn left and then after going under the railway bridge turn left up the incline to Trevarno Farm and follow the signs to the car park.

The nearest main line station is Camborne about 6 miles away which is served by Great Western Railway services from London Paddington and Cross Country Trains services from Bristol, the Midlands and the North.

The nearest bus route is First Group Service 38 which links Camborne Bus Station with Helston and serves Crowntown on the B3303. The journey is a little bit more than 20 minutes. Get off at the old Crowntown Inn which is sadly now closed.

The walk to the Railway is just under a mile and around 20 minutes at normal walking pace.  From the bus stop at Crowntown walk north towards Nancegollan (back in the direction of Camborne), and after about 300m follow the brown tourist sign, on the right, down to Chynhale, where you bear left up the hill. The Railway entrance, up the concrete ramp, is 100 metres on the left, after you go under the high arched railway bridge.

Please note that the last bus to Camborne is at 1602, but please leave some extra time as the hill up from Chynhale is quite a drag.
