The road through Crowntown, about 3 miles North West of Helston on the Camborne Road is closed until August 22nd so some of you will need to find an alternative route to get to the Helston Railway.

First, the good news;

From Camborne:

If you are travelling from Camborne there is no change, as the turning to the Railway is north of the blockage.

Carry on exactly as you would have done, straight on through Praze an Beeble on the B3303 down through Nancegollan and turn left a few hundred metres after Nancegollan at the little train tourist sign.

If however you are coming from Penzance, Hayle or Helston then these are some suggestions, which will not add much, if anything to your journey time.

From Penzance:

Take the Helston road (A394) as usual, but when you get to the roundabout just north of Marazion, you should turn take the 1st exit off the roundabout signposted Goldsithney, Relubbas and Leedstown (B3280)

Travel about 7½  miles along this B3280 going through Goldsithney and Relubbas, and straight across the junction at Leedstown, signposted B3280,  Redruth and Praze an Beeble, and onwards to Praze.  (Beware, cars park in front of the signpost, but just go straight across the crossroads)

In Praze an Beeble (Praze), at the crossroads, turn Right and head for Helston on the B3303. Go down through Nancegollan and turn left a few hundred metres after Nancegollan at the little train tourist sign.

From Hayle:

You need to come out of Hayle on the B3302 as normal, but when you get to Leedstown you should turn Left towards Praze an Beeble (Praze).

In Praze an Beeble (Praze), at the crossroads, turn Right and head for Helston on the B3303. Go down through Nancegollan and turn left a few hundred metres after Nancegollan at the little train tourist sign.

From Helston:

The best way would be to take the Redruth Road to the North out of Helston on the B3297 From the roundabout its about 1½  miles, straight across another roundabout and travel about along this road past Wheal or Wheal Dream Golf and Restaurant, until you see a sign saying Prospidnick, Trannack, Coverack Bridges and Trannack School.

Keep to this fairly windy road on past Trannack School and onwards to the Railway at Prospidnick.  At the very end, some 2 miles onward, the road bears sharp left and the Railway is a 100 meters along on the right – before the railway bridge.

If you get lost:

At any time, you could just type Helston Railway into Google maps, and the pin is right in the middle of our car park.  You can also use What3Words, and these are: diary.edit.soaps

Our postcode is TR130RY, but this can be a little misleading right at the end of your journey. The Railway is in Prospidnick, but not up the winding hill.  The entrance is a couple of hundred metres from the large railway bridge.
