It might be a quiet time of year but our volunteers are going strong and are busy with all those jobs we don’t have time to do in the summer period.

But first some wonderful news from our Junior Section. On February 9th at the Cornwall Heritage Awards 2022 Helston Railway had two nominations.  The “One to Watch” category had Junior volunteer Chris Douglas nominated and shortlisted to the final 3.  He was Highly Commended.  Plus the Helston Railway Juniors Volunteers Team (who deliver the Junior Days) were nominated in the “Heritage Heroes” category, again being shortlisted to the final 3.  And again they were Highly Commended.  A stunning success by our younger volunteers and their teams. Congratulations!

Work never stops on the track maintenance side and we have recently been working on the track in the Trevarno Station area where we have been changing sleepers and deballasting, with help from our trusty RoadRailer.  It’s hard work but the P Way team really seem to enjoy themselves!  It’s also great that our recent visit from our Network Rail professionals gave our track a big tick in the box – so they are feeling greatly encouraged!

We have even been building a new hut at Truthall Halt – a revamp of the linesman hut that originally sat on the site.  It’s being built with sleepers – a traditional methodology, and we have got to the rafter stage – so its well on its way to completion

And Finally – whilst we may not be open for train rides until the end of March our Buffet is open on Sundays during February and March for Breakfast, Sunday lunch and afternoon teas.  GF, Vegan and Vegetarian options are available.  For more information or to book a table please contact Fred on mccollf@gmail.com  or ring on 07368 340612 or go to Cornish Carriages buffet and restaurant cars Facebook page to message him!
