Visit the Railway
Please come and visit and see the progress and developments of the railway for yourself. You can have a ride on our little train, visit the buffet at Prospidnick Halt and the shop in a converted Mail Van with photo archives and much more on offer - so come and pay us a visit.
Situated in the rural Prospidnick Village three miles to the north of the town of Helston, the Helston Railway is a small tourist attraction on a closed railway branch line.
The Railway is open on Thursdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from Easter to November each year from 10.30am to 4pm offering train rides in a brake van. We also have a buffet and shop situated in a converted DMU train carriage.
Access to Prospidnick halt is a short walk from the car park at Trevarno Farm, Prospidnick TR13 0RY.
From Helston take the A394 to Penzance and then the B3302 to St Ives and Camborne - see the brown sign to Helston Railway
Then turn right at the Junction of the B3303 road to Camborne - brown sign again.
Go through Crowntown and take the Chynhale and Prospidnick right hand turning - last brown sign.
At the bottom of the hill turn left and then after going under the railway bridge turn left up the incline to Trevarno Farm and follow the signs to the car park. The short walk to the train is signposted from there.
If you are coming from Camborne take the B3303 towards Helston and after going through Nancegollan turn left towards Chynhale and Prospidnick at the brown sign. At the bottom of the hill turn left and then after going under the railway bridge turn left up the incline to Trevarno Farm and follow the signs to the car park. The short walk to the train is signposted from there.
Getting to us by Rail
The nearest stations are Camborne, Hayle and St Erth about 6 miles away. All are served by First Great Western services from London Paddington and Cross Country Trains services from Bristol, the Midlands and the North. National Rail Enquiries 08457 484950 or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk
Getting to us by Bus
The nearest bus route is First Kernow Service 45 which links Camborne Bus Station with Helston and serves Crowntown on the B3303, which is about half an hour's walk from Trevarno Farm.
The walk to the station is along narrow country roads with no pavements so care must be taken. From the bus stop at Crowntown walk towards Nancegollan and follow the brown signs to the railway.

At the Railway
Car parking and entry to the railway is free - you can come to the platform, enjoy something in the buffet, browse in the shop, watch a video of our railway and watch the trains for free. If you wish to ride on the train there is a modest charge. The railway car park is 100 metres from Prospidnick station and there is a firm sloping surface between the car park and platform which is suitable for wheelchair use. However due to the nature of our train carriages we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs on the train or in the shop or buffet. Picnic tables are available by the station entrance if you don’t want to go onto the platform.
A disabled toilet and baby changing facilities are available at Prospidnick Station, this is a portable toilet.
Access to the platform is via a ramp with handrails on both sides. The platform surface is steel mesh so is not suitable for heels or walking sticks with narrow ferules and sometimes dogs find it difficult. If you ask a member of staff on arrival they will be able to help you navigate the platform. We do have a large walking stick base which you can borrow for your visit.
If your dog does not like the platform surface see a member of staff and they will be able to walk you around to the train so you don’t have to miss your train ride.
A water bowl is available for dogs at the entrance to Prospidnick Halt and dogs are welcome in the front carriage of the buffet.
Need to sit down? You are able to wait for your train in the DMU in either the buffet or first class compartment – and there is also a bench seat in the shop.
Tickets for the train can be purchased in the shop. We do offer concessions for carers.
The buffet usually has gluten free bread rolls available if you are not able to tolerate wheat products and it also has a high chair for babies.
If you have any queries about accessibility then please email email@example.com or ring 07901 977 597.
